The Phillies optioned right-hander Tyler Cloyd to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Thursday, slotting left-hander John Lannan in his place in the rotation Monday against the Nationals. The Phillies recalled lefty Jake Diekman to take Cloyd's place, although he will not join the team until Friday in Colorado.

A.J. Burnett was placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with a right calf strain that had already prompted the Pirates to scratch him from his scheduled start Friday.
