Top Twins prospect Buxton promoted to Double-A

Center fielder also heads MLB.com's list of all Major League Baseball prospects

HOUSTON -- Center fielder Byron Buxton, the Twins' top prospect and Major League Baseball's No. 1 prospect, was promoted Monday to Double-A New Britain, which begins a seven-game homestand Tuesday.

The promotion came following Monday's game in which the 20-year-old homered and drove in three runs for Class A Advanced Fort Myers.

Buxton was selected No. 2 overall in the 2012 First-Year Player Draft behind shortstop Carlos Correa, who was taken by Houston.

In a season in which he's had to battle injuries, Buxton is hitting .240 with four home runs and 16 RBIs in 30 games.

Last season Buxton sizzled at the plate, batting .334 with 12 home runs, 109 runs and 77 RBIs in 125 games between Class A Cedar Rapids and Fort Myers.
