Twins can't capitalize on overturned call

KANSAS CITY -- Twins manager Ron Gardenhire successfully challenged a play in the third inning of Wednesday's game against the Royals.

With Chris Parmelee at first base and nobody out in third, Eduardo Nunez hit a slow grounder to second baseman Omar Infante, who attempted to turn a 4-6-3 double play. Nunez was ruled out at first base by umpire Adam Hamari for a double play, but Gardenhire challenged the call.

After the review, the call was overturned and Nunez was ruled safe at first base. But after the overturned call, Nunez was promptly picked off at first base by Royals catcher Salvador Perez.

Gardenhire has now issued 24 challenges on the season, and has had 12 calls overturned. He lost a challenge in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Royals and was ejected for arguing with umpire Ted Barrett.
