Twins' challenge overturns out call vs. Royals

MINNEAPOLIS -- Twins manager Ron Gardenhire successfully issued a challenge in the fifth inning of Wednesday's 4-0 loss to the Royals in the series finale at Target Field.

With Brian Dozier at the plate, Sam Fuld singled with one out and attempted to steal second with two outs. Fuld was initially ruled out at second by umpire Corey Blaser, but Gardenhire came out to challenge the play, as Omar Infante received a strong throw by catcher Salvador Perez and tagged Fuld high on his chest on a headfirst slide.

A replay review overturned the call and Fuld was safe at second base with his eighth stolen base of the season. But Fuld was stranded at second, as Dozier grounded out to third to end the inning with the Royals holding a 2-0 lead.

It was the 19th challenge of the season for Gardenhire, who has had nine plays overturned.
