Trevor May is ready for his introduction to the national spotlight. And on his future home stage, to boot.
May, one of the top prospects in Minnesota's organization, was named to the Futures Game U.S. Team on Wednesday as a replacement for Cardinals prospect Marco Gonzales, who was called up to the Major Leagues.
The 16th annual SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game will be held on All-Star Sunday, July 13, at the Twins' Target Field, where May is expected to make his home starts in the not-so-distant future. The right-hander joins fellow Twins prospects Jose Berrios and Kennys Vargas, who were named to the World Team on Tuesday.
May, 24, is listed as Minnesota's No. 11 prospect, and he's managed an 8-4 record with a 2.94 ERA in 14 starts for Triple-A Rochester this season. Last year, the right-hander pitched for Double-A New Britain, and he racked up a 9-9 record and a 4.51 ERA in 27 starts.
May was a fourth-round selection by the Phillies in the 2008 First-Year Player Draft and was acquired by the Twins in December 2012 as part of a trade for Ben Revere. May has posted a 54-44 record and a 3.94 ERA in seven seasons in the Minors.
