Nunez safe at first after Twins win challenge

DETROIT -- With two outs in the eighth inning and the Twins desperately trying to mount a massive comeback against the Tigers on Saturday, manager Ron Gardenhire challenged first-base umpire Seth Buckminster's call that Eduardo Nunez was out trying to leg out an infield single.

After a review of 46 seconds, the call was overturned, and Nunez was awarded first base.

Nunez grounded the ball to second baseman Ian Kinsler's right, and he made an impressive play on it to even come close to nabbing Nunez.

According to Gardenhire, Nunez pulled his right hamstring on the play. He stayed in to run, though, and eventually scored one of Minnesota's three runs in the frame. He didn't return to the field for the bottom of the eighth.

The Tigers finally closed it out for a 12-9 win.
