SARASOTA, Fla. -- Third baseman Trevor Plouffe, who has been slowed by a sore right calf this spring, could play in Minnesota's intrasquad game on Sunday morning, Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said on Saturday.
The Twins are set to play in a six-inning intrasquad game at 9 a.m. CT before they host the Rays in the Hammond Stadium opener at 12 p.m. CT. Plouffe could play in the instrasquad game before making his Grapefruit League debut early in the week.
"We'll hope everything goes ... good today ... so there's a possibility ... that I might get him into [the exhibition game on Sunday]," Gardenhire said. "He has no limitations, according to my sheet."
The intrasquad game will feature many of the club's younger players, with P.J. Walters, B.J. Hermsen, Trevor May, Alex Meyer, Caleb Thielbar, Jose Berrios and Andrew Albers all on the list to throw.
