No damage done after Diamond takes liner off thigh
By Rhett Bollinger / MLB.com
Diamond said he left the start for precautionary reasons, as his leg was feeling fine after the game.
"I got hit just on the inner thigh on my right leg, so it caught most of the meat," Diamond said. "It just rattled me a little bit. It stings just a little bit, but I was able to walk it off and go right into the whirlpool. So we're good."
The comebacker ended up being the game-winning hit for the White Sox, as it scored Tyler Flowers from third base. Diamond was able to throw home, but Flowers beat the throw to help Chicago to a 3-2 win.
The play came on pitch No. 93 for Diamond, so Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said that Diamond was close to coming out of the game either way. The left-hander ended up giving up three runs on eight hits over 7 1/3 innings.
"It was pretty much time for him to come out of the ballgame," Gardenhire said. "It was more precautionary than anything else. He should be fine."
