High school baseball set for Target Field

State Championship games to be played at Twins' home

The first baseball game held at Target Field will be a college baseball game, and now the Twins have announced that another prominent amateur event will also take place at their new ballpark this summer.

The Twins and the Minnesota State High School League announced Friday that the State Baseball Championship games will be played at Target Field on June 19. The Class A game will be played at noon CT, followed by Class AA at 3 p.m. and Class AAA at 6 p.m.

Admission for the entire day will be $10 for adults and $7 for students. Tickets will be available exclusively at the Target Field ticket office on the day of the games.

"The Twins' organization is proud of its longstanding commitment to amateur baseball, and looks forward to having the Minnesota State High School League and its talented players use Target Field for these high-level games," said Twins president Dave St. Peter in a statement. "It's our hope that 'Championship Saturday' at Target Field will become a new Minnesota baseball tradition."

This event will mark the first time that all the Minnesota State Baseball Championship games have been held at one site since 1988. That was when the semifinals and the finals of the two-class tournament were held at the Metrodome.

In addition to the three baseball games being played, the Minnesota State Softball Champions, who will be crowned on June 11, will also be recognized during this event.

"We thank the Minnesota Twins for this outstanding opportunity and feel that playing in Target Field will be a tremendous thrill for the athletes on the teams that advance to the championship game," Dave Stead, Minnesota State High School League executive director, said in a statement. "Even more importantly this will provide an opportunity to showcase and promote high school baseball in Minnesota."

Plans are still being finalized, but any games not played or finished on June 19 at Target Field will be played on June 21 at a soon-to-be announced site.
