Twins set tentative weekend rotation

Duensing or Pavano will start Sunday's season finale

DETROIT -- The Twins' pitching rotation has been set for this weekend's series with the Royals, at least temporarily.

Manager Ron Gardenhire said on Thursday morning that Jeff Manship will start on Friday night and Nick Blackburn on Saturday, with Brian Duensing scheduled to start on Sunday.

But things could change depending on the outcome of Thursday's contest in Detroit, Gardenhire said before the game.

If the Twins get to the final day of the regular season with a chance at the playoffs, Carl Pavano is a possibility to start Sunday's finale at the Metrodome.

Pavano, who has started on fewer than four days' rest just twice in his career, would be starting on three days' rest, whereas Duensing would be starting that day on his usual rest.

And if the Twins are out of contention by Saturday, the team could look to have Blackburn deliver a very short outing and then turn to their relievers the rest of the way.

"We're not thinking about that right now," Gardenhire said. "We're thinking about winning today and going the rest of the way."
