Kubel day-to-day with left knee bruise
Twins have to replace cleanup hitter back-to-back nights
By Kelly Thesier / MLB.com
ARLINGTON -- For the second consecutive night, the Twins lost their cleanup hitter early in Tuesday's 9-6 win over the Rangers. Jason Kubel fouled a ball off the back of his left knee during his at-bat in the first inning on Tuesday night and was taken out of the game. Brendan Harris replaced Kubel in the at-bat with the count, 3-2, and Kubel was credited with the swinging strikeout. Harris remained in the game as the designated hitter. Kubel was diagnosed with a left knee bruise and is listed as day-to-day. The knee remained swollen after the game, and Kubel said he'd have to see how he feels when he arrives at the ballpark on Wednesday to determine whether or not he can play. For Kubel, who has endured injuries to both knees -- including surgery on his left one that forced him to miss an entire season, it was a scary moment. "I kind of had the same feeling when I first hurt it. It felt heavy and I couldn't move it," Kubel said. "It loosened up quite a bit after that, but it's still sore."
