Slowey notices mechanical error
After rough start, righty sees he is rushing delivery

After giving up 13 hits and five earned runs in 5 1/3 innings to Toronto on Monday night -- his second shaky start -- Slowey realized from the video that he was rushing his delivery. In a bullpen session Wednesday, he worked on slowing himself down.
"I wasn't leaving myself enough time to get my arm up and make pitches," Slowey said. "It made it a lot harder to get my pitches on the outer half and to command my fastball."
Though Slowey won his first start against Seattle, he had trouble finishing off hitters. He threw 100 pitches in six innings, and while he walked none, he allowed nine hits and five earned runs. After an impressive spring (2-0, 2.13), Slowey's ERA stands at 7.94.
Slowey usually throws two bullpen sessions between starts. He said he'll work on staying back again Thursday in preparation for his next start, on Saturday against the Angels.
