Improving Gomez sits another day
Center fielder says he feels fine, but Twins moving with caution

ARLINGTON -- Twins center fielder Carlos Gomez was out of the lineup for a second straight day on Sunday due to his strained left calf muscle. Gomez reported that his leg was feeling much better, but Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said the training staff recommended that he not use the outfielder to make sure that the injury is fully healed. "They said another day would not hurt him, plus a day off tomorrow would probably be beneficial," Gardenhire said. The forecast on Sunday in Texas also called for rain, and the field was still a little damp from storms that rolled through overnight. That also factored into the decision not to run Gomez back out on the field just yet. "Coming off an injury with your calf, it's not a good situation," Gardenhire said. "I think he's available if we need him in a pinch. He says he feels good." Craig Monroe got the start in place of Gomez once again on Sunday against the Rangers, but the expectation is that Gomez will return to the lineup on Tuesday when the Twins host the White Sox at the Metrodome.
