Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN -- The Minnesota Twins received word this morning that their bid placed earlier this week for 26-year old Japanese shortstop Tsuyoshi Nishioka was the highest bid, and that is has been accepted by the Chiba Lotte club of the Pacific League of Nippon Professional Baseball.
The Twins and Mr. Nishioka's representative will now have an exclusive negotiating window of 30 days to reach agreement on a contract. In the interim, Nishioka remains under control of the Chiba Lotte Marines. Out of respect for the Japanese team and the player, the Twins do not plan any further comment at this time.
