Twins acquire Carlos Gomez, Philip Humber, Kevin Mulvey and Deolis Guerra from the New York Mets

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL -- The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have acquired outfielder Carlos Gomez and right-handed pitchers Philip Humber, Kevin Mulvey and Deolis Guerra from the New York Mets in exchange for left-handed pitcher Johan Santana.
Gomez, 22, began the season at Triple-A New Orleans and batted .286 (40-for-140) with eight doubles, two triples, two home runs and 13 RBIs in 36 games last season, before being recalled by the Mets on May 13. He batted .232 (29-for-125) with three doubles, two home runs, 12 RBIs and 12 stolen bases in 58 games with New York, before being placed on the disabled list with a fracture of the hook of hamate bone in his left hand. Gomez was originally signed by the Mets as a non-drafted free agent, July 27, 2002.
Humber, 25, was 11-9, 4.27 (139.0 ip, 66 er), allowing 129 hits with 44 walks and 120 strikeouts in 25 starts with Triple-A New Orleans last season. He struck out six or more batters in a game nine times with the Zephyrs and pitched 6.0-plus innings in 20 of his 25 starts. Humber also made three appearances (one start) for the Mets, going 0-0, 7.71 (7.0 ip, 6 er), allowing nine hits with two walks and two strikeouts. He was originally selected by the Mets in the first round (3rd overall) in the 2004 First-Year Player Draft.
Mulvey, 22, was 11-10, 3.32 (151.2 ip, 56 er), allowing 145 hits with 43 walks and 110 strikeouts in 26 starts for Double-A Binghamton last season and was selected to play for Team USA in the 2007 MLB Futures Game, July 8 at San Francisco. He also made one start for Triple-A New Orleans, going 1-0, 0.00 (6.0 ip, 0 er), allowing two hits with no walks and three strikeouts. Mulvey was originally drafted by the Mets in the second round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft.
Guerra, 18, was 2-6, 4.01 (89.2 ip, 40 er), allowing 80 hits with 25 walks and 66 strikeouts in 21 appearances (20 starts) with Single-A St. Lucie last season. He was selected to play for the World Team in the 2007 MLB Futures game, July 8 at San Francisco. Guerra was originally signed by the Mets as a non-drafted free agent, July 2, 2005.
