Twins announce details for Kirby Puckett tribute
Fans invited to attend Metrodome tribute on Sunday
FT. MYERS, FL/MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL, MN -- The Minnesota Twins announced Thursday details surrounding Sunday's (March 12) Kirby Puckett Tribute starting at 7:00 p.m. CT at the Metrodome.
The event, which will be emceed by longtime Twins radio broadcaster John Gordon, will include testimonials from Puckett's friends and current and former Twins personnel including Kent Hrbek, Torii Hunter, Tom Kelly, Harmon Killebrew, Andy MacPhail, Al Newman, Cal Ripken, Jr. and Dave Winfield. Musical tributes and video of Puckett's life and career will also be included in the program.
The doors to the Metrodome will open at 6 p.m. CT and fans from throughout the region are encouraged to attend. The event is free and all seating is general admission. Water and soda will be provided to all attendees free of charge by the Metropolitan Sports Facility Commission. Many parking ramps and surface lots around the Metrodome are also offering complimentary parking to fans and Metro Transit will have additional train service to and from the Metrodome on Sunday evening.
A private visitation and memorial service for Puckett's family and close friends will take place in Minnesota on Sunday afternoon. The media is asked to respect the family's wishes for privacy during the visitation and memorial service.
The Puckett family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be sent to the Kirby Puckett Memorial Fund at the Minnesota Community Foundation or the American Heart Association. Details on where to send memorial contributions can be found below.
