Minnesota Twins Hurricane Katrina disaster relief effort nets more than $230,000
More than $100,000 raised through sale of 1965 stars bobblehead sets
tickets for any Major League Baseball game

MINNEAPOLIS - ST. PAUL, MN -- The Minnesota Twins announced today that the ballclub's Hurricane Katrina disaster relief efforts totaled $238,000. The Pohlad Family Foundation and other Pohlad-owned businesses will also contribute an additional $565,000. These funds will benefit the American Red Cross, The Salvation Army and other local and national charities assisting with the recovery effort.

Earlier this month, more than $100,000 was raised through the sale of complete sets of the 1965 Stars Bobbleheads on the Twins' official website, www.twinsbaseball.com. A total of 500 limited edition sets were sold at the cost of $265, with proceeds benefiting the American Red Cross and The Salvation Army.

Twins players and their families also contributed $53,000 to the American Red Cross. The Brad and Heather Radke Foundation made a contribution of $25,000. Other players, coaches and their families made personal contributions totaling an additional $28,000.

The Minnesota Twins made cash contributions of $50,000 to various national and state emergency relief organizations. The Minnesota Twins and the Twins Community Fund, in conjunction with the team's broadcast partners (WCCO Radio, Fox Sports Net North, and WFTC), also held auctions of Twins memorabilia and ball park experiences raising $25,000.

Twins fans also donated more than $10,000 during a recent Twins homestand. More than $4,000 was raised at Salvation Army collection stations in the Metrodome September 2-7. An additional $6,000 was raised for the American Red Cross via Major League Baseball's "pass the hat" initiative during the September 7 Twins home game.

The Pohlad Family Foundation and other Pohlad-owned businesses will contribute $565,000 to national and local hurricane relief efforts. Organizations providing emergency services will receive $400,000 immediately. An additional $100,000 will be contributed to the Minnesota Helps Fund created for distribution to the Baton Rouge and New Orleans Community Foundations for long-term needs resulting from the disaster. Employee-matching gift are expected to total more than $115,000.
