Stairs to interview for Phils color commentator job
Former slugger the latest Phillies alum in the running for vacancy in the booth
PHILADELPHIA -- Comcast SportsNet broadcasts its first Grapefruit League game from Clearwater, Fla., on Feb. 26.
It almost certainly will have a new color commentator by then.
Matt Stairs will be the latest, and possibly last, person to interview for the job, which became vacant when the network declined to bring back Chris Wheeler and Gary Matthews.
Stairs, who famously hit a go-ahead pinch-hit home run for the Phillies in Game 4 of the 2008 National League Championship Series at Dodger Stadium, declined comment when reached by telephone Thursday.
Jamie Moyer, Mitch Williams, Mickey Morandini and Kevin Stocker -- all former Phils -- are finalists to be Tom McCarthy's partner in the booth, with some sources giving an edge to Moyer and Williams.
Stairs has done TV work with NESN and radio work with SiriusXM.
Comcast has final say on the hire, although the Phillies' input will be included.
