Stars hit Minny streets in Chevrolet Red Carpet Show

MINNEAPOLIS -- It is an endless parade that started appropriately enough in the Motor City, crossed the Clemente Bridge outside Pittsburgh's PNC Park, wound through the piers alongside San Francisco Bay, steamrolled twice through Midtown Manhattan, careened alongside the Arch, visited Disneyland and scorched the hot streets of Phoenix and Kansas City.
The next stop is America's first downtown transit mall.
All-Stars from the Twins and every other Major League Baseball team will travel through the streets of Minneapolis in Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, Silverado and Camaro vehicles prior to the 2014 MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday in the 10th annual MLB All-Star Red Carpet Show presented by Chevrolet. The parade starts at the corner of the legendary Nicollet Mall & 13th Street, turns down 7th Street and proceeds to Target Field on an approximately 5,700-linear-foot red carpet.
MLB.com will simulcast the MLB Network telecast of the event at 3 p.m. ET. Greg Amsinger and Sean Casey will host the event for MLB Network, with Heidi Watney conducting interviews and providing reports along the route. MLB Network will air an abbreviated version at 7:30 p.m. ET, before the game.
Hall of Famer and Twins legend Rod Carew will serve as this year's grand marshal, so look for No. 29 leading the parade through the streets in a Stingray convertible, followed by the annual rollout of players and their families in the back of open Silverado trucks. The event begins at 1 p.m. CT and is free to the public.
Following Carew, in honor of Little League Baseball's 75th anniversary, a group of Minneapolis-area Little Leaguers will march in the procession. In addition, American League manager John Farrell and National League manager Mike Matheny will lead their teams down the carpet in Stingray convertibles. A number of Twins legends -- including Bert Blyleven, Paul Molitor and Tony Oliva -- are scheduled to take part, as will TV personalities and mascots.
The 30 winners of the Target presents People Magazine "All-Star Teachers" campaign, which honors current and retired teachers, will take part in the celebration. The teachers were selected as part of a search for teachers who make an impact on the lives of their students and communities, with one winner per club.
The Commissioner's Trophy given to the World Series champion and crafted by Tiffany & Co. will be on display as part of the parade. The last five teams that have won this benefited from a home-field advantage courtesy of their league winning the All-Star Game.
MLB will give away a pair of All-Star Game tickets to the two individuals attending the parade who best show their love for MLB and the Midsummer Classic through their attire and enthusiasm. So if you need tickets and are downtown, you might want to dress for the occasion.
In 1968, a dozen blocks of Nicollet Avenue were converted into a curving, tree-lined mall closed to automobile traffic. This was the first transit mall in the U.S., and it inspired the creation of transit malls in other cities across the country. Typically there is limited automobile traffic in such designs, and in this case it makes for an especially unique parade route, with great viewing room on both sides for lunchtime fans downtown.
As part of its ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability, MLB is again working with the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) to implement measures to reduce the event's carbon emissions and make it more environmentally friendly. For the MLB All-Star Red Carpet Show, the players will be traveling on a red carpet made from 100 percent recycled fiber and produced by electricity produced by 100 percent renewable wind and solar power. Chevrolet will provide Flex-Fuel Chevy Silverado vehicles for the parade.
This event, which started at Detroit in 2005, is always a valued chance for players and their families to spend time together, and an all-star team of fashion and beauty experts have signed on to dress a group of players' wives exclusively for the event. Fashion houses Nicole Miller and 4 Collective will provide dresses and event attire, Bobbi Brown's Professional Makeup Artists will provide special occasion makeup applications, and Aveda will be on-site to style their hair. Additional items will be provided by Mission Skincare, OPI and Tory Burch.
MLB.TV Premium subscribers, for the first time, will be able to live stream the All-Star Game via MLB.TV through FOX's participating video providers. Access will be available across more than 400 platforms that support MLB.TV, including the award-winning MLB.com At Bat app. MLB.com will provide extensive online coverage of the All-Star Week festivities.
The 85th All-Star Game will be televised nationally by FOX, in Canada by Rogers Sportsnet and RDS, and worldwide by partners in more than 200 countries via MLB International's independent feed.
