Rockies select RHP Logan Kensing from Triple-A Colorado Springs
Club Options RHP Chris Volstad to Triple-A
DENVER - The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Logan Kensing from Triple-A Colorado Springs. To make room on the active roster, the Rockies have optioned right-handed pitcher Chris Volstad to Triple-A Colorado Springs. Kensing (#56) will be available for today's game vs. Philadelphia (2:10 p.m. MDT) at Coors Field.
Kensing, 30, began the season at Triple-A Colorado Springs and has made 19 appearances going 0-1 with 7 saves along with a 2.57 ERA (21.0 ip, 6 er), 20 hits, 10 walks and 16 strikeouts. He began the season allowing just one unearned run over his first 11 games and 12.0 innings. Over parts of 7 seasons with Florida (2004-09) and Washington (2009), Kensing has appeared in 134 Major League games, 3 of which were starts, and has gone 8-9 with 2 saves and a 5.81 ERA (161.0 ip, 104 er), 88 walks and 143 strikeouts.
Volstad, 26, has made 6 appearances this season in two separate stints with Colorado. In the most recent stint after being recalled on June 12, he pitched in 2 games and allowed 4 runs in 2.0 innings. On the year, he has posted no record with a 10.80 ERA (8.1 ip, 10 er) over 6 games. In 130 career Major League games/123 starts, the former first round pick is 35-51 with a 4.94 ERA (703.2 ip, 386 er), 248 walks and 442 strikeouts over six seasons.
