Twins at the plate: Denard Span had the Twins' only hit through the first four innings. Michael Cuddyer hit a leadoff single to center in the fifth.Phillies at the plate: The Phillies could not get anything going early. They had runners on first and second with one out in the fourth, but Ryan Howard struck out swinging and Jayson Werth lined out to third baseman Nick Punto. But Ben Francisco hit an 0-2 pitch off Nick Blackburn to left field for a solo home run to give the Phillies a 1-0 lead. Cody Ransom added a three-run shot in the bottom of the seventh. Twins on the mound: Right-hander Carl Pavano threw three perfect innings against the Phillies. In three Grapefruit League starts, Pavano has allowed seven hits and three runs in eight innings for a 3.38 ERA. Blackburn replaced Pavano in the fourth inning.

He has thrown 6 1/3 scoreless innings in two Grapefruit League starts. Chad Durbin took Happ's place in the fifth inning.Worth noting: The Twins announced before the game that Span agreed to a five-year, $16.5 million contract extension. The deal also includes a $9 million club option for the 2015 season with a $500,000 buyout. ... Twins designated hitter Jim Thome, who played for the Phillies from 2003-05, received some nice applause before his first-inning at-bat against Happ. He struck out looking to end the inning. ... The Phillies travel to Sarasota, Fla., to play the Orioles at 1:05 p.m. Sunday on Gameday Audio. Right-hander Kyle Kendrick, who is competing with left-hander Jamie Moyer for the fifth spot in the rotation, gets the start. Andrew Carpenter and Sergio Escalona are also scheduled to pitch. Escalona is competing for one of three potential openings in the bullpen.
