Revere repeats as top player, Bromberg is top pitcher

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Twins announced their Minor League Player and Pitcher of the Year Awards on Thursday, with outfielder Ben Revere and right-handed pitcher David Bromberg taking home the honors. Revere, 21, was named the Sherry Robertson Award winner as the Twins' Minor League Player of the Year for the second consecutive year. He's the first Twins prospect to win the honor in back-to-back years since LaTroy Hawkins did in 1993 and '94. Revere batted .311 with 13 doubles and 75 runs scored in 121 games for Class A Fort Myers. The 5-foot-9, 165-pound outfielder was selected as to both the midseason and postseason Florida State League All-Star roster. Revere was also ranked the eighth best prospect in the Florida State League by Baseball America after recording a league-leading 145 hits and a team-high 45 stolen bases. He was drafted by the Twins in the first round of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft. Bromberg, 22, was named the 2009 Jim Rantz Award winner as the Twins' Minor League Pitcher of the Year. The right-hander went 13-4 with a 3.70 ERA and 148 strikeouts in 153 1/3 innings for Fort Myers. He held opponents to a .224 batting average in 27 outings (26 starts) and issued just 63 walks this season. The right-hander started the Florida State League All-Star Game and set career highs in wins and innings pitched while leading the league in strikeouts. Bromberg was named the 15th best prospect in the Florida State League Pitcher of the Week by Baseball America and was selected as the Florida State League's Most Valuable Pitcher. The 6-foot-5, 255-pound pitcher has a posted 34-17 record in four years in the Twins' organization since being drafted in the 32nd round of the '05 First-Year Player draft. The Sherry Robertson Award was established in '70 to honor Minnesota's top Minor League performer each season, but in '02 the organization limited the award to strictly players while adding an additional honor, the Jim Rantz Award, to recognize their top Minor League pitcher. Revere and Bromberg will be recognized with the rest of the Twins' 2009 Award winners at the fifth annual Diamond Awards dinner, which will be held on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010 at the Hilton Minneapolis.Kelly Thesier is a reporter for MLB.com.
