Twins unveil plans for Dome's final series

MINNEAPOLIS -- There will be more than 55,000 fans in attendance when the Twins close out their final season inside the Metrodome on Sunday, Oct. 4.

The Twins announced on Friday that the final regular-season contest inside the Metrodome has been sold out. The team will raise the stadium's retractable curtain for that matchup with the Royals. It's believed to be the first time the club has done so for a regular-season game since they held a Kirby Puckett Tribute on Sept. 7, 1996.

To celebrate the 28 seasons they spent in the Metrodome, the Twins will host a special postgame ceremony to commemorate the great players and moments from their time in the Dome. Members of the All-Metrodome team, the 1987 and '91 World Series teams and the club's four American League Central championship clubs will be in attendance for the event.

Among the notable players who will be celebrated in the ceremony are Twins Hall of Famers Rick Aguilera, Bert Blyleven, Gary Gaetti, Kent Hrbek, Tom Kelly, Brad Radke and Frank Viola as well as Chili Davis, Greg Gagne, Corey Koskie, Paul Molitor and Jack Morris.

All 55,000-plus fans for the final contest will also receive a certificate commemorating their attendance.

The Twins also announced the rest of their plans for the rest of the Oct. 2-4 series, a three-game set with KC dubbed Fan Appreciation Weekend.

In addition to every fan receiving a 2009/2010 Target Field calendar, they'll also have the chance to participate in a photo session with some of the former Twins who are on hand for the weekend's festivities. Former players will be available for photos from 4:30-5:30 p.m. CT on Oct. 3 in the Metrodome concourses.

Before the series opener on Oct. 2, the Twins will also hold a pregame ceremony to honor the Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission employees who have helped serve the fans since the Metrodome opened in 1981.

While the season finale is sold out, tickets remain available for the other two games of the series.
