Encouraging news for injured Twins
Right-hander Blackburn has successful pitching session
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- The Twins might be concerned about Joe Mauer's recovery from kidney surgery, but they received good news about a few of their other injured players on Monday.Right-hander Nick Blackburn threw to live hitters for 10 minutes on Monday morning. He threw about 40 pitches and reported that his left knee felt good following the session.
Blackburn, who has been skipped in the last two turns of the rotation, is now expected to pitch in Wednesday's game against the Orioles in Fort Lauderdale. He'll back up Glen Perkins in the contest.Jose Mijares had been scheduled to make the trip to Port Charlotte on Monday, but he was scratched due to a sore groin. The left-hander stayed back for the club's workout and went through it without any problems, manager Ron Gardenhire reported. The club will re-evaluate Mijares on Wednesday, following the club's off day on Tuesday.
