Young powers Twins' win over Rays
Left fielder's two-run homer in the fifth is the difference

Twins at the plate: Dave Winfree doubled home the Twins' first run in the second inning and former Rays outfielder Delmon Young hit an RBI single in the third to put the Twins up 2-1. Young added a two-run homer in the fifth; Rays center fielder Gabe Kapler robbed Young of extra bases in his first at-bat with a nice over-the-shoulder catch. Another former Rays player, Brendan Harris, singled in his first two at-bats against his former mates while playing first base.

Rays at the plate: Ben Zobrist had a stand-up triple with one out in the second and scored on a groundout to tie the game at 1; he added a double in his next at-bat. ... Pat Burrell hit a single off the top of the left-field fence that scored Carl Crawford for the Rays' second run.
Twins on the mound: Kevin Slowey made his second start of the spring and struck out Crawford and Kapler, swinging, in the first and Justin Ruggiano, looking, in the second. He finished with four strikeouts during a 3 1/3 innings performance in which he allowed two runs and walked none. Rays on the mound: Scott Kazmir made his first start of the spring and allowed a run on three hits while striking out one in two innings worked against the Twins; the southpaw threw 33 pitches and looked healthy on the mound. ... Dan Wheeler also made his first appearance of the spring and the veteran reliever allowed one run on two hits while walking out one and striking out one. ... Joe Nelson made his first appearance as a Ray and allowed two runs in one inning worked as the veteran right-hander surrendered Young's home run. Grapefruit League records: Twins 7-3; Rays 5-6 Up next: The Twins will be off Tuesday before traveling to Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday afternoon to face the Orioles. Glen Perkins will start for the Twins and be opposed by David Pauley.The Rays will host the Blue Jays Tuesday afternoon at Charlotte Sports Park in a 1:05 p.m. contest. Matt Garza will make his first start of the spring and will be followed by fellow starter Andy Sonnanstine along with top prospect David Price; also pitching will be Brian Shouse and Mitch Talbot.
