DENVER -- Center fielder Carlos Gomez's sore right wrist kept him out of the Twins' lineup for a second straight day on Sunday. And manager Ron Gardenhire said that if the injury is expected to keep him sidelined for two or three more days, Gomez could be headed for a stint on the disabled list.

Gomez was planning to test the wrist by trying to play catch before Sunday's series finale against the Rockies.

"I'll find out today what he feels like throwing the ball," Gardenhire said. "He says he feels better today. But I'll get another center fielder if it's going to be two or three more days, probably."

After the game on Sunday, Gomez said he was able to throw without much problem. He still has yet to test the wrist while hitting, but he plans on trying to do that on Monday. That likely will be the biggest test. Gomez said it's moving his wrist from side to side and turning it that creates some pain, a motion that occurs while swinging.

Gomez injured the wrist while making a ninth-inning catch against the center-field wall in Friday's game in Colorado.

With Gomez still sidelined, Craig Monroe got the start in center once again. Gomez did see action as a pinch-runner late in Sunday's game, meaning that a stint on the disabled list is unlikely.

But if Gomez's wrist injury does look like it might linger, Gardenhire hinted that the team would call up outfielder Denard Span from Triple-A Rochester.

"If he can't play for a few more days, then I'll make an adjustment and we'll get another guy up here, a natural center fielder," Gardenhire said.

Span, 24, impressed the Twins' coaching staff during his first stint in the Majors in April, and he's been on a recent hot streak offensively for the Red Wings. Heading into Rochester's game on Sunday, Span was batting .457 over his last 10 games. He's hitting .378 with a .486 on-base percentage in 24 games with the Red Wings.
