FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Shortstop Adam Everett was back in the Twins clubhouse on Wednesday after missing two days due to a bout with the flu.

Everett was suffering from the same bug that has lingered with pitcher Scott Baker for nearly a week. He said that he was feeling much better on Wednesday morning and the plan was to have Everett play in a Minor League contest on Thursday.

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said Everett felt well enough to accompany the team to Sarasota, Fla., on Thursday to face the Reds, but the skipper felt it was better to just have him remain back in Fort Myers to get his five or six at-bats.

"He'll at least be back on the field and we'll get him in the lineup Friday," Gardenhire said. "So he'll get to play the last couple of games."

Everett said that he hopes the short layoff won't affect the preparation he's been making all spring.

"I was actually feeling really good [at the plate] and getting ready to go," Everett said. "It's the way it goes. It's there, just a matter of finding it again and getting it going."
