MLB All-Star Statues of Liberty to start appearing throughout New York City 06/19/2008 3:03 PM ETMLB.com
Forty-two Major League Baseball-decorated Statue of Liberty replicas will start appearing Friday throughout New York City as part of the celebration of the 79th MLB All-Star Game, to be played at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday, July 15th. The statues, commissioned in conjunction with MLB licensee Forever Collectibles, stand eight and a half feet tall and are designed with bold graphics featuring each of the 30 MLB clubs and other celebrations of New York City baseball like the Brooklyn Dodgers, New York Giants, and the final seasons of Yankee and Shea Stadiums. The statues will be positioned near some of the most popular locations in New York City including Times Square, Carnegie Hall, Radio City Music Hall, the New York Stock Exchange and the Statue of Liberty. Miniature versions of each of the statues are now available to the public at a suggested retail price of $24.99 on MLB.com and other participating retailers, including Modell's, Toys "R" Us, Yankees and Mets stadium stores and Clubhouse Shops. A portion of the sales of the replica statues will be donated to The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, Inc., which is the only charitable foundation dedicated to the restoration, preservation and enhancement of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. In addition to the All-Star Statue of Liberty replicas, fans can obtain a wide variety of All-Star merchandise. "This year's All-Star merchandise sales are unprecedented," said Howard Smith, Major League Baseball Senior Vice President, Licensing. "With the combination of New York City, the final year of Yankee Stadium, and the most diverse All-Star product line we have ever had, we will far surpass our best sales year in All-Star history." MLB All-Star Game Programs The 79th MLB All-Star Game and All-Star Summer are expected to be record breaking events for MLB. Tickets sales for DHL All-Star FanFest are well ahead of last year's sales with expectations to reach the highest attendance figure in the event's history. Numerous MLB merchandising partners are forecasting best-ever All-Star sales. The 79th MLB All-Star Game will be televised nationally by FOX Sports, in Canada by Rogers Sportsnet and Sportsnet HD and televised around the world by Major League Baseball International, with pre-game ceremonies beginning at 8 p.m. (EDT). ESPN Radio will provide exclusive national radio coverage that will also be available on XM Satellite Radio, while MLB.com will provide extensive online coverage. The 79th All-Star Game will be available via the MLB International world feed in 229 countries/territories and in 13 different languages.
